On What I Really Want to Write About

Hello, scrap-pals.

These last few weeks I’ve been thinking about the blog and the topics I’m discussing within it. Since when I launched this website I’ve tried to write about different subjects: self-acceptance (like 4 Steps to Start Harnessing Your Weird Self), meditation (like Taming the Fog), and even shared some personal experiences (like A Decent Howleen Weekend After All). Finally, I’ve come to the realization that being personal is the direction I want to take.

Although I feel like I did manage to put some valuable advice out there, writing about productivity and meditation isn’t really the reason why I’ve started this blog in the first place.

I don’t really want to be a life coach; I just want to express myself through my writing. One way to do that is by writing novels, which is something I’ve been doing in my free time for the past seven years. It doesn’t really matter if I’ll ever manage to do it for a living, or even if I’ll ever get published; but if I have a day job and spend the little free time I’ve got left by writing life-coaching blog posts, then I’ll never be able to do what I like best.

The second way of expressing myself is by doing what I’m doing just now—writing something personal. To the risk of sounding like an entrepreneur, I’m gonna say this. If I ever want to build a platform, I’d like to do that by attracting people who are more interested in me and the themes I discuss in my stories. Those interested in reading about productivity and meditation, on the other hand, might not be interested in my pieces of fiction.

This might sound like a letdown to some of you, but this is all pretty new to me, and I still don’t really know what the hell I’m doing. The only thing I know is that this choice feels… right, in a way. In any case, I hope everyone who has been reading my blog until now will want to stick with me.

That said, the schedule will remain unchanged: I’ll keep updating this blog once every two weeks—but I’m hoping it won’t take as much to write something that feels more personal, and if that’s true I’ll have more breathing room to expand my home base to other platforms. Presently, as I’m writing this, I’m pretty active on Twitter (@JohnForcolin), where I share tweet-sized stories. I might add something on Instagram, but I’ll tell you more on that at some point in the future.

For the time being, let me tell you this: I’ve tried setting up a platform many times before, but I’ve never come this far. Also, I’ve never felt so happy about what I’m doing. I hope you scrap-pals are doing great, too.
