John Forcolin

Long story short:

John was born in Treviso, Italy. He started practicing his English at the age of twelve because most videogames weren’t translated to Italian at the time. He perfected the language by watching RPGMaker tutorials, reading obscure D&D rulebooks, and living a nomadic lifestyle in four different countries in four years. He loves laughing (but he likes crying more), is easy-going (that’s a lie), and likes long walks on the beach (because he was a piece of driftwood in his past life). He has a higher-than-average interest for rust, postcards from strangers, starless nights and the midseason-smelling wind blowing at his back.

Short story long:

The first time John slept in a tent was at the age of two. By the time he was six, his father would take him to his before-dawn boat cruises on the river Sile, searching for the best fishing spot. John claims these early experiences brought him emotions which took him more than twenty years to describe.

When fishing sorties became less frequent, John’s passion for virtual adventures (AKA videogames) began. He first fell in love with Pokémon Yellow, and over the years his passion for early ’00 games would never waver. He would play popular and less popular games alike (Azure Dreams, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic, Alter Echo, Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space, Sacred 2, Halo: Combat Evolved, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Persona 3).

Seen as an oddball by his classmates (and rightly so, I may add), he became more socially withdrawn at high school. That, united with his stubbornness and a slight predisposition to self-loathing, led him to a deep depression which lasted for three years. It still bothers him from time to time, and when it does, he copes with it by listening to Matt Lange or Pearl Jam.

Despite his lack of focus and having no clue of what he was going to do next, he went from high school to university with no major hiccups. The day after getting his bachelor’s degree in Wine Making Sciences he took a train to Schwabisch Hall, Germany, and worked as a waiter in an Italian restaurant for six months. From then on he moved to all kinds of places, including Alice Springs, Australia and Dublin, Ireland.

In 2013 John took creative writing as a hobby, and never put it down since then. Apparently he has finally found the words to describe those lifelong emotions of his.
